Watercolour Heart ~ A Review {Giveaway Closed}

A few weeks ago I received the sweetest email from Jessica Antoinette Doré, introducing herself and her new business to me. She was so sincere and so excited to share her gift with you all that I was instantly won over.

Jess is an undergraduate Fine Art student and, at just 20 years old, has recently started her own personalised illustration business, Watercolour Heart; which has just been Mamahood Approved.

Watercolour Heart takes your photograph, a perfect memory, and turns it into a unique illustration, a work of art. The images are hand-drawn and painted by Jess, and then scanned into a computer where they are touched up to ensure that they are of the best quality for you to have printed.

She asked if she could turn one of my special moments into a unique image to show me what she could do.

Keeping the business digital keeps costs down, which means the illustrations are much more affordable. It also allows people to email, post and share their illustrations online and on social media. This combination of hand-drawn and digital illustration gives you the best of both worlds; the authenticity of an original with the quality of digitalisation.

Jess became involved with art through her grandmother, who she describes as a phenomenally talented artist. “She began painting with me when I was about six years old. I am the youngest of four children and none of my siblings or parents are artistic, so I developed a very special relationship with my grandmother, as she coached me through my first acrylic, watercolour and oil paintings.”

The inspiration to start Watercolour Heart came from a very family-orientated place. Jess’s parents and siblings are all talented in their own fields and are very entrepreneurial. “We grew up in a home where hard work and determination were key, coupled with the teaching that if our dreams didn’t scare us a little, they weren’t big enough.”

The idea of Watercolour Heart started with a box of watercolour paints Jess received after her grandmother passed away. “With them I fell in love with illustrating special moments, and sharing in the special images of others. I started this business to encourage creativity and caring in everyday life. I am passionate about art and people and hope that Watercolour Heart will share and spread this passion.”

Although Jess is just starting out, she already has big dreams for her business. “The long term goal for my business is to create a reliable, accessible and affordable platform for people to include creativity in a very unique and special way in their everyday lives. At the moment the business is limited to digital illustrations. However, I see Watercolour Heart developing into an online decor and gifting shop with the use of personalised illustration.”

All Jess needs to create a gorgeous piece of art for you is your favourite photograph. You can choose whether you want a plain image or wreath, which you can personalise with any two elements; whether you want it in black and white or colour (1-3 colour options) and whether you would like to add text. They take 2 – 3 days and are only sent by email to maintain their high quality.

Wow! This is truly a unique idea! I would love to have a sketch of my 2 boys for their great grandmother! I’m her only grand-daughter and we share a very special bond. This is a very talented artist, who I’m sure will be extremely successful!
