After wrapping up the Pregnant in (_) interviews last week; on Monday I start a new interview series titled ‘Surrounded by Supermommies’. I have been extremely secretive over this series and not even the mommies interviewed knew what the angle of the series was going to be. Their answers are all safely with me, so the announcement now cannot influence their stories in any way.
Today I have a very special interview for you. As mentioned last week, we are chatting with a mommy who was due to have twins… Well, they beat me to print and were born happy and healthy at exactly 35 weeks on Tuesday 9 June! So a million congrats to Angeliqueca and Justin Mcleod Roux on welcoming the beyond adorable Robert and William!
So, where were we… arriving back in our room and being set up with press-button morphine. Basically every time you start feeling sore, you press the button. I think there is a 10 minute (or so) window between when it will produce the goods. On top of that, every 4 hours a nurse brings you more pills and adds things to the IV. The pain management from the medication side is excellent when you are in the hospital. The rest of my c-section recovery was difficult on every level. [Read more…]
As you all know I created the most comprehensive hospital bag list known to man for Charly’s arrival. This resulted in my taking a small suitcase, a large togbag & an oversized handbag with me to the hospital. I opened each bag only once to get out what I would need & unsurprisingly that was not very much. Although I know that most of you will likely pack everything & the kitchen sink, just in case (& I still agree with that), you will be a different person the second your newborn is in your arms & you really won’t need anything else. And finally here it is, at least part one is, although I am insanely tired and it has taken weeks to get it all down and so I am sure the quality of the writing may be suffering. The focus of this post is the c-section itself (I’ll be posting the recovery part separately) so let’s take it from the top. [Read more…]
5 weeks and 1 day, I have no idea where the time went! Charly is changing daily now, she is no longer just a little creature that eats and sleeps. She has long periods where she is awake and alert; where she turns her head when she hears my voice and she stares into my eyes for ages until her little eyes cross. [Read more…]
I was going to incorporate this into my final post, but then I ended up writing the beginning of a whole different summary post to end this “pregnancy chapter” of Pregnant in Cape Town. For those who have wondered, I still intend to blog on PICT and remain active on Social Media in that name once Charly is here to keep the conversations going. Partly because I am proud of what I have created and partly because a large part of me is still hoping that I will one day be “Pregnant in Cape Town” again. So I will update my site & Social Media with the tagline “& everything after” and get around it that way. [Read more…]
I am blown away by technology on so many levels and the 4D scan yesterday was no exception – what an amazing experience! Some of you will have seen the video I posted, which is the perfect example of how 4D scans work. When it begins, the shadows make the image quite terrifying, but after a few seconds it shifts and you can clearly see her face emerge. How unbelievable is that? [Read more…]
