The time has come to say farewell to my All I Want For Christmas series. Thank you to each and every person who took the time to answer my questions about their businesses, to those that have shared their amazing talents with me and all of my readers and to those who have offered special prices, discounts or prizes. Today it is time to look away from what I want for Christmas, what all of us want for ourselves and our families, and to maybe look a little broader at those who focus less on want because of the larger needs they face. And so, my final wish… All I want for Christmas is to help others. [Read more…]
While the week before last was hard, it did nothing to prepare me for the past week. As most of you know, I was feeling particularly stressed about work; and with Monday being the 30th, I was preparing for a brutal week of wrapping up month end across all the businesses and then preparing for December and year end. Not to mention starting prep for January and in Tums 2 Tots case, February, the rebrand, the launch event, and so on and so forth. And then life happened.
Being a mom has meant a lot less gifts for me, from Brett or from myself, because we both so love spending that money on Charly. On the odd occasion where Brett has thoughtfully bought me a little spoil, it is generally shared with Charly too. So all I want for Christmas is something just for me.
The week that was, was really really hard. Charly has started doing this awful hysterical crying thing when she wakes from her naps that scare me half to death; work just seemed to pile higher and higher no matter how much I worked, bills are competing with that work pile, and I am facing Christmas time in need of a break but unlikely to have one. In fact, with my mom not around, I kind of have the opposite of a break to look forward to. It isn’t like me to feel so despondent, but even working at home, I’ve still hit that not-quite-end-of-year slump. [Read more…]
I love that I have been able to support this very special mommy and her business by sharing her with all of you! Thank you all for showing your love and support for Oh!Boy kids. It means so much to small mom-owned businesses to have the support of other moms. And since this year, everybody seems to be a little strapped for cash, it is great to find such lovingly made items that kids love for such amazing prices.
Having an excuse to dress up my toddler, and having her cooperate, (even for a short space of time) is the answer to my Christmas wish this year! I know I am meant to do the whole introduction thing, but I just want to show you these photos quick! Seriously!! I may or may not have gone a little overboard because LOOK at this stuff!! How could I not?? So here we go, All I Want for Christmas is to dress up my toddler (and I got it)! [Read more…]
I’ve been very focused on all the happies, on Christmas shopping and amazing giveaways and celebrating the new adventures I’m embarking on and the relationships I have found and the gorgeous events I have attended. What I haven’t talked about is the reality of my mom life swirling around all of that, so I thought it might be time for a reality check in. Outside of the sudden entrepreneur in me, I am also the mom of a toddler who hates sleep and food and seemingly everything else at the moment. [Read more…]
I have absolutely LOVED working with the brands I have found for my All I want for Christmas series and I am so very happy to hear that you have been showing these awesome people your support. So much so that this special mommy wants to GIVE you things to say thank you! Today’s giveaway is from Ella from Oh!Boy Kids, who you will remember from her Playdough set in All I Want for Christmas is the perfect gift for my toddler.
If you had to ask me to choose one thing that I consider to be the perfect gift, it would be books – ALL the books! As an adult, that is nearly impossible to manage, because we are all so very specific about what we love, what genres we love, what style of writing we love, what authors we love. This is the magic of buying books for children, they are still on that journey… They have favourites (I hear the understanding groans of the toddler mom who has read Toddle Waddle every day for the last year), but they still have that wonder of reading every new book; discovering the endless gifts that stories have to give. Being a book obsessed mama, I have found the very best book suppliers and services there are, and that is what I am going to share with you today. So my title may be a little misleading, because All I want for Christmas is ALL the books… for ALL the kids!
I got my first event invitation as the Editor In Chief of Tums 2 Tots last week. While I’ve been to my fair share of great events for Pregnant in Cape Town, it was somehow different to go to the Jungle Oats breakfast as a magazine owner, editor and boss lady type. I was nervous and beyond excited and felt super proud putting on my name badge. I got one of the regular Tums 2 Tots writers, Leigh Geary (of The Mom Diaries fame) to attend with me, keeping me company and “representing” my brand (HOW grown up?!).
I wish all of you could win something this special from Watercolour Heart to share with your loved ones this Christmas. Sadly there can be only one winner, but I hope you send those photos through to Jess and let her create one of these amazing Christmas sets for you. [Read more…]
I have written a “perfect gift for my hubby” list before and many of those gifts remain the same; but since I can’t just buy those for him again, here are a few more ideas that are just awesome! You may note some of the same names appearing again, because the brands I have found for this series are so phenomenal and flexible that they cover so many of my bases for gifts!
A little while ago, Maz from Caffeine and Fairydust (one of my all time favourite people and blogs), tagged me in this chain of “getting to know me” posts. I love reading these and apparently I love writing them too. Since there are more of you now than there were when I started this journey, maybe a little insight into who I am might provide some context (or not). Either way, here’s to you getting to know me
It is no secret that I am a huge fan of Jess from Watercolour Heart. She has the most incredible talent and a just-as-incredible heart, and she is one of maybe 5 people in all the world who loves Christmas as much as I do. And I am so incredibly happy to tell you that Watercolour Heart has a gift for you this Christmas!
